How to choose a mobile detailer in Tampa Bay
A good detailer gives a car back looking better than the day you bought it. A careless one can leave swirl marks, a stained seat or a bill that grew on the day. These are the checks worth ten calm minutes before anyone works on your car.
Decide what you actually want done
“Detail” means different things to different businesses. A wash and wax, an interior clean, a full detail, paint correction and a ceramic coating are different jobs with different prices. Decide what is on your list, then look for detailers who say they do that work. You can filter the directory by full detail, interior, ceramic coating, paint correction or paint protection film.
Across 26 areas we list 463 detailers (as of November 6, 2026): 302 say they come to you, 213 list full details, 357 list ceramic coating and 104 list paint protection film.
Read what the package includes
Two “full detail” packages at different prices can include very different work. Ask what is cleaned inside (seats, carpets, headliner, door jambs), what is done outside (hand wash, clay bar, polish, wax or sealant), and what costs extra, such as pet hair, heavy stains or odor treatment. Most detailers price by vehicle size, so ask the price for your car, not the headline “from” price.
215 detailers in the directory publish at least one package price we could record, and 0 detailers have prices on their profile.
Insurance: ask what it covers
A detailer works on something you own and value. Ask whether they carry insurance that covers damage to customers’ vehicles while in their care (often called garage keepers coverage), not only general liability. Ask for the certificate and check the dates. A website saying “fully insured” is a start, not proof.
85 detailers in the directory publish an insurance statement. We record their wording; we do not see the policy.
Mobile? Ask about water and power
Many mobile detailers carry their own water tank and generator, so they can work in a parking lot or a driveway without a spigot. Others need your outdoor tap and an outlet. Some use rinseless or waterless washes. If you live in a condo, apartment or HOA community, ask your building whether washing on site is allowed before you book.
71 detailers say they bring their own water and power.
Coatings and film: ask who backs the warranty
Ceramic coating and paint protection film warranties usually come from the product maker and often depend on a certified installer and on regular upkeep. Ask which product they use, who issues the warranty, and what you have to do to keep it valid. Ceramic coating: what to ask goes into more detail.
67 detailers state a detailing or coating certification.
Check the paperwork
Florida counties and cities issue local business tax receipts to businesses operating there (Florida Statutes chapter 205), so you can ask for one. We do not claim there is a state licence for detailing; if you are not sure what applies, ask the business or check with your county.
See their own work
Before-and-after photos on a detailer’s own website or social accounts show the kind of cars they work on and the finish they are proud of. Look for photos of the same car, in similar light, not stock images.
Questions to ask before you book
- What exactly is in this package, and what would cost extra for my car?
- Are you insured for damage to my vehicle? Can you send the certificate?
- Do you bring your own water and power, or do I need to provide them?
- For a coating or film: which product, who issues the warranty, and what upkeep does it require?
Detailer Atlas lists what each business publishes, with sources. It does not inspect work or vouch for anyone: use it to make a shortlist, then ask.
This is general information, not legal, insurance or contracting advice. Every vehicle is different: confirm details with the detailer, your insurer and, for a coating or film, the product maker’s warranty terms and your vehicle maker’s care guidance.
