How often to detail your car in Florida sun and salt

By Detailer AtlasUpdated November 6, 2026Figures refresh from live listings

There is no single right schedule. Florida sun, salt air near the coast, lovebug seasons, pollen and sprinkler water all wear on a car’s finish, and how you park and drive matters as much as the calendar.

Regular washes

Bird droppings, bug remains and sprinkler or hard-water spots can mark paint if they are left to bake in the sun, so a regular gentle wash does more for a car than an occasional big detail. Many owners, especially of coated cars, book a maintenance wash every few weeks; coating makers often recommend a rhythm for keeping their warranty valid, so ask your installer.

174 detailers in our directory list maintenance washes (as of November 6, 2026), and 149 detailers say they offer a maintenance plan.

Full details

A full detail, inside and out, is usually booked a few times a year rather than every month. Families with kids or pets, rideshare drivers and anyone parking under trees may want it more often. A detailer who sees your car can tell you what it needs.

213 detailers list full details and 337 detailers list interior detailing.

Near the coast, and after a beach day

Salt air and sand are hard on paint, wheels and the underside of a car. A rinse after time at the beach and regular washes help. Ask your detailer whether their wash includes wheels, wheel wells and door jambs.

Boats and RVs

Boats and RVs sit in the same sun and salt, and gelcoat and large painted panels can fade and oxidize. Some detailers specialise in them.

204 detailers list boat detailing and 72 detailers list RV detailing.

Reduce the need

Park in shade or a garage when you can, keep sprinklers off the driveway, and clean bug remains and bird droppings off soon. Less baking in the sun means longer between details.
